Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Activision has canceled a new awaited remake

After the great success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 , the remake of the immortal title for skateboard fans, many fans hoped that the publisher could reserve the same treatment for the following chapters of the series.

In these hours we have learned that, indeed, Activision had in mind to start work on a successor to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 ( which you can recover at a special price on Amazon ) but that, unfortunately, the plans have suddenly changed.

It should be remembered that the studio responsible for the acclaimed remake, Vicarious Visions , no longer exists after being absorbed by Blizzard .

This has therefore blocked any plans for the development of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 , which apparently has been officially canceled by Activision following the merger (via VGC ).

This was confirmed by Tony Hawk himself , who spoke during a live stream on Twitch in which he explained the background on his cancellation, underlining the difficulty encountered in replacing Vicarious Visions:

“That was the plan, even up to the [1 + 2] launch date. We were doing 3 and 4, then Vicarious got absorbed , we looked for other developers and that’s it.

The truth is [Activision] was looking for someone who could work on 3 and 4, but they couldn’t trust anyone in the same way they trusted Vicarious . ‘

In any case, it would not have been a decision taken with a light heart: the publisher would have in fact tested the ground with different development teams, without however being fully satisfied by any proposal.

In fact, none of the ideas made their way into the heart of the Pro Skater house , but Tony Hawk hopes that in the future the remakes of 3 and 4 can return to be questioned :

“Who knows? Perhaps we will find a solution when things calm down. You never know.

I never imagined that we would redo 1 and 2 after 20 years ».

While we hope that we do not have to wait another 20 years to see a new remake of the saga, the words of Tony Hawk seem to have temporarily put an end to the popular skateboarding saga.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 turned out to be an exceptional remaster of the first two beloved chapters, as we told you in depth in our review : it would be a real shame not to continue the excellent work done, even with a different team.

Among the many features of the title, the possibility of creating their own skate tracks has been introduced: there are those who have decided to use this function to recreate a location of a Pokémon game .
